GCC MESSAGE

Hebrews 11:1-6
Faith in Action

11      Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. 2This is what the ancients were commended for.

3By faith we understand that the universe was formed at Gods command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

4By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead.

5By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death: He could not be found, because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. 6And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
DEFINITION OF FAITH

1 complete trust or confidence in someone or something: this restores one’s faith in politicians.

2 strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof.

FAITH AND HOPE

FAITH HAS A BASIS IN THE ONE WHO PROMISES

Romans 4: 18-21

18Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” 19Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. 20Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, 21being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.
1.   He always keeps his word

2.   He has done it before

3.   He does not change  Hebrews 13:8

FAITH IS TRUSTING IN GOD

Vs 4. Abel, his giving was based on a trust

Vs 11- Sarah and Abraham
And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise.

Our faith is based on the faithfulness of the one who promises.

TAKING FAITH STEPS

1.   Begin by growing in our faith- through the word Romans 10:17

2.   We expose our selves to things/people that increase our faith. Seeing (Abraham went out and saw the stars, etc)  Hebrews 12:1-2

3.   We take small steps first and then grow more. We do something. Write down, go check the prices, research on the details, pray etc.

4.   We begin speaking out what God puts in our hearts. What fills the heart the mouth speaks.

5. STEPPING OUT. This is obedience.

Hebrews 11:6, 8

8By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. 9By faith he made his home in the Promised Land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise.
