2019 Theme: Abundant Living
January 3, 2019

As we all know Christmas is here, on this day we celebrate the birth of our Lord. During this season, many people even those that don’t know Him will sell a lot of things. We as Christians should remember that this season is not just to eat but give our lives to a God who loves us so much. When we are celebrating we need to realize that God is so powerful that He gives us many opportunities to live and what He wants back is for us to go back to Him. Just got to know recently that in our church we have a new member who is one of the survivors from the “boat cruise accident” that happened a few weeks ago, he finally realized that he needs God after his survival. For all my friends out there, the celebration of Jesus requires us to consider Him as our personal Lord and savior.

As we approach the end of the year, what comes to mind is giving thanks to God for the last 12 months. He has been Jehovah Jireh – Our Provider. You might not have become richer this year but the very fact that you’ve been able to eat, take your children to school, pay bills and so on, is proof enough that God has been good. He has opened doors, personally, I’ve been able to travel to places I’ve never been and to you He might have opened doors financially, academically etc. for each and every one of you. So many people have not been able to make it this far meaning God has protected you, there a time when you don’t see any reason why you’re alive because of the things surrounding you but then you come to a conclusion that if it wasn’t for God then you wouldn’t still be alive.

Here at Gaba community church, we have had an emphasis on Thanksgiving this December. As a way of thanksgiving;

  1. We have challenged people to testify God’s goodness and here we have given the congregation a chance to testify either on camera or in person during the sermon.
  2. We have encouraged giving back to God either in monetary terms or in first fruit
  3. We have to be generous to others and bless them, as a church we had a mission to the prisons where we took boxes of soap and blessed the prisoners of Kigo prison.

“Christmas is celebrating the opportunity of connecting back to a God who loves us.”

Finally, as we talk about this big season celebrations, there are Christmas and New Year celebrations. I encourage everyone who has never gone to church or who taken long without going there to use these two days to go to church and worship God with the saints, tell Him how grateful you are that you are still alive. Here at Gaba community church, we shall have our normal three services on Christmas day and a cross-over overnight into the year 2019. During the cross-over overnight, we shall have time worshiping, spending time in His presence but also dedicate the next 12 months to God. Am praying for whoever is reading that you will celebrate these two important days but also give thanksgiving in this wonderful season.

During the festive season, people do things they don’t normally do therefore take care of drunk drivers, thieves, and anyone who would like to take advantage of you. Drive carefully, use your seatbelt, and don’t go to places you shouldn’t go to.

“Take care but above all give thanks to God for goodness.”
