GCC Message

1 Corinthians 8

The story behind the passage. (Corinth was a city full of idol worship, and the young church members had to deal with idols in all forms of daily life.)

WHAT ARE IDOLS?

Lev 19:4  “Do not turn to idols or make for yourselves any gods of cast metal: I am the Lordyour God.

Idols are man made gods, shaped by people, crafted by people and made of physical things, wood, stone or metal.

They are not real they are things.

In Uganda, these tarisima, mountains, stones, small houses put behind people’s houses.

WHY DO WE BURN THEM WHEN WE GET SAVED?

When people attach themselves to them, they bring fear and fear attracts the presence of demons but they in themselves are useless.

 TODAY’S REALITY
  1. All of our beef is slaughtered by Moslem people and they have to face Mecca and pray a prayer before they slaughter.
  2. Many of the businesses where you buy stuff they sacrifice animals and call on gods before they sell.
  3. Many building where you operate your business there are animals that were sacrificed in the foundations.
IF YOU TRACED WHAT GOES ON BEHIND THE SCENES YOU WILL EAT NOTHING, YOU Will NOT BOARD ANY TAXIS, YOU WILL  NOT  WORK, OR SLEEP.
  • Paul says:  Idols are idols, they are not gods, they are man made.
  • Do not become paranoid.
  • Over suspicious, paranoiac, suspicious, mistrustful, fearful, insecure.
  • Such people see a demon in everything. Every darkness has a god in it.

DO NOT LIVE IN FEAR

Proverbs 29:25
The fear of man brings a snare,
But whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe.

2 Timothy 1:7
for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

Fear attracts the enemy to take you captive.

YOU ARE BLESSED AND COVERED

The Story of Balak (the king of Moab) and Balaam the Prophet.

Numbers 22:12God said to Balaam, “You shall not go with them. You shall not curse the people, for they are blessed.”

Numbers 23:
18 Then he took up his oracle and said: “Rise up, Balak, and hear! Listen to me, son of Zippor!  19   “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent.  Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?

20   Behold, I have received a command to bless; He has blessed, and I cannot reverse it.
21   “He has not observed iniquity in Jacob, Nor has He seen wickedness in Israel.

The Lord his God is with him, And the shout of a King is among them.

22   God brings them out of Egypt; He has strength like a wild ox.
23   “For there is no sorcery against Jacob, Nor any divination against Israel.

It now must be said of Jacob And of Israel, ‘Oh, what God has done!’

24 Look, a people rises like a lioness, And lifts itself up like a lion;

It shall not lie down until it devours the prey, And drinks the blood of the slain.”

There are angels all around us.
2 kings 6:15-18
15 When the servant of the man of God rose early in the morning and went out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was all around the city. And the servant said, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” 16 He said, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 17 Then Elisha prayed and said, “O Lord, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha”.

WE NEED TO PRAY FOR GOD TO REVEAL TO US HOW POWERFUL ARE THE FORCES WE HAVE IN CHRIST.

KNOW WHO YOU ARE IN CHRIST

1 John 4:4
4 Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

1 Chronicles 16:25 For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised,
and he is to be feared above all gods.

26    For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols,

but the Lord made the heavens.

27    Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy are in his place”

NOT TO STUMBLE THE WEAK BROTHER/SISTER
(1Cor 8: 7-13)
  • Eating your clan totem.
  • Eating pork publicly when you converted from Islam.
  • Our dressing may be accepted in some circles but offensive in others.
  • Eating blood, some cultures do

OUR LOVE FOR GOD AND THE BROTHER WILL LEAD US TO FOREGO SOME OF OUR FREEDOMS.
