The whole essence of accountability is integrity. It is God’s requirement for all leaders to be men and women who are above reproach and the only way to do that is to set up a system that will make you accountable.
For a pioneer leader, you are the one to put it in place. Do not expect anyone to do it for you. Pastor Dave Wells says that you have to protect God’s ministry from yourself.
“Integrity is the state of being complete and unified” John Maxwell says that “When I have integrity, my words and my deeds match up. I am who I am, no matter where I am or who I am with.”
Integrity is not what we do as much as who we are. The more credible you are the more confidence people place in you; and thereby allowing you the privilege of influencing their lives. Remember Image is what people think we are. Integrity is what we really are.
John Maxwell notes the following things:
1. It builds trust.
2. Has high influence value.
3. Facilitates high standards.
4. Results in a solid reputation not just image.
5. Means living it myself before leading others.
6. Helps leaders to be credible instead of being just clever.
7. It is a hard won achievement.
Finally, Dr. Billy Graham said: “Integrity is the glue that holds our lives together. We must constantly strive to keep our integrity intact. When wealth is lost, nothing is lost; when health is lost something is lost; when character is lost, all is lost.”
